About this stay
Very little of pre-war Calais survives, which makes the interior of the Meurice the most genuinely old-fashioned room in town. Behind an elegant facade on rue Edmond Roche sit antique furniture and a wrought-iron staircase with a brass banister, and the classic decor carries through the main lounge and a small bar. Each room is decorated individually rather than to a template, with satellite television, tea and coffee making facilities and a private bathroom, and a lift serves the floors. Free outdoor parking sits alongside secured indoor parking and a garage, both at extra cost, which matters on a street this close to the harbour. Pets are accepted, family rooms are available and there is room service. The practical geography is hard to beat on this part of the Opal Coast: 500 metres to Gare de Calais-Ville, five minutes on foot to the sea, and 550 metres to the port and its ferries to England, the shortest walk to a crossing of any hotel in Calais.
