The Hôtel Mercure Montauban trades on its address more than anything else: an 18th-century building set directly opposite the cathedral, in the middle of the brick historic district that gives Montauban its identity as Toulouse's smaller, quieter sibling. Rooms are straightforward and comfortable rather than showy, air-conditioned with private bathrooms and satellite TV, but the real draw is stepping outside into Place Nationale's arcades within a couple of minutes. Bistro Bourdelle, the hotel's own restaurant, takes its name from the sculptor born a short walk away, and its glass-roofed bar makes a reasonable stop even for guests staying elsewhere. Four meeting rooms mean the hotel doubles as a business base, handling up to sixty people in theatre configuration, which keeps the property busy with regional business travel alongside leisure stays.
