Pet-friendly stays in Calais are easier to find than almost anywhere else on the Cote d'Opale, and the reason is geography: this is where dogs cross the Channel. Calais rewards a dog more than it rewards a sightseer, and locals seem to know it. The Opal Coast wind keeps the sea wall busy year-round, the sand west of the port runs for a long straight stretch, and the free city buses make it simple to move between the beach, Place d'Armes and the green space at Parc Saint-Pierre. The town is flat, compact and used to animals coming off the crossings, which takes the tension out of arriving late with one.
